Bio

Dr. Susan Phillips is a pediatric endocrinologist at Rady Children's Hospital-San Diego and an associate professor of pediatrics at UC San Diego School of Medicine.

She completed a residency in pediatrics and a fellowship in pediatric endocrinology at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. Following her clinical training, Dr. Phillips completed a basic research fellowship in diabetes within the Diabetes Branch of the National Institute of Diabetes, Digestive and Kidney Disorders at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Md.

Dr. Phillips has been with Rady Children's/UC San Diego since 2001, where she works both as a clinician and a basic researcher. Her current research involves a translational approach to the study of obesity, focusing on fat hormones and their influence on the body's response to insulin. Beyond her interests in obesity and obesity-related diseases such as diabetes and lipid disorders, she has developed a specialized interest in the management of thyroid disease, specifically thyroid cancer in children.

Dr. Phillips is a member of the Lawson-Wilkins Pediatric Endocrine Society, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, the Endocrine Society and the American Diabetes Association.
