Dr. Leidy Tovar Padua is a pediatric infectious disease specialist at Rady Children's Hospital-San Diego and an assistant clinical professor of pediatrics at UC San Diego School of Medicine.
After earning her medical degree in Colombia in 2007, she completed training in pediatrics at St. Joseph Children's Hospital in New Jersey, followed by a pediatric infectious diseases fellowship at Mattel Children's Hospital at UCLA. During her fellowship, she developed an interest in congenital infections and transplant infectious diseases.
Dr. Tovar Padua is highly experienced in the management of patients with transplant-related infectious disease issues, HIV and perinatal infections. She also specializes in treating complex neonatal and pediatric intensive care patients.
When she is not seeing patients, Dr. Tovar Padua likes to explore places, cultures and food through first-hand experiences; traveling is one of her passions. She has also assisted medical mission groups in the underserved areas of her home country, and these experiences have given purpose to her life.
She continues to challenge herself to be the best infectious diseases physician she can be. Her passion and commitment to help vulnerable populations have continued throughout her career, making a positive impact on children and their families.
