Bio

Dr. David Werho is a board-certified pediatric cardiologist at Rady Children's Hospital-San Diego and an associate clinical professor of pediatrics at UC San Diego School of Medicine. He is the program director for the Pediatric Cardiology Fellowship.

He specializes in pediatric cardiac critical care and devotes the majority of his clinical time to the care of patients in the cardiovascular intensive care unit.

Dr. Werho earned his bachelor's and his medical degree at the University of Arizona. He then completed his pediatric residency at New York University, where he served as chief resident following his training. He completed dual-fellowship training in pediatric cardiology at C.S. Mott Children's Hospital - University of Michigan and in pediatric critical care medicine at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital - Stanford University prior to joining the team at Rady Children's.

Dr. Werho's research interests include studying cardiac intensive care unit outcomes, including duration of ventilation and ECMO complications, to help improve the outcomes of future patients with critical heart disease. He also performs medical education research to contribute to the training and education of future cardiologists and intensivists and is an expert in assessment and curriculum development as well as communications and social media. He leads several national committees in his field and serves on the board of directors and leadership committees of several international organizations in cardiology and cardiac critical care.
