Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego recognizes that human milk is the optimal source of nutrition for newborns and infants. Human milk plays a vital role in growth and development and is considered a medication that improves immune support.
All families are encouraged to breastfeed and/or provide expressed human milk to their infant while hospitalized, as long as the nutritional needs of the infant are met.
